About this event

Digital technologies have transformed the way that we work, shop and are entertained. The next stage in the digital revolution has been underway for some time and affects the way that we plan, build and operate the built environment. Whilst there are considerable economic and social benefits of these changes, they also create significant security vulnerabilities.

Further to the Engineering Council’s recent guidance for engineers entitled Principles for Security, this joint event organised by the IET and the Register of Security Engineers and Specialists (RSES) aims to demonstrate, with on line demonstrations, that there is global access to vulnerable systems and national infrastructure systems and that synergies are to be gained from an integrated threat management approach.

Delegates will have the unique opportunity to see virtual demonstrations, discuss solutions and learn how best they can work together to address the vulnerabilities to mitigate threat to our buildings and infrastructure, and their occupiers or users, from criminal and terrorist activity.

The lecture will include:

  • A live demonstration of on-line global penetration assessment, testing of control systems, followed by a discussion on solutions
  • Two integrated teams of physical counter-terrorism and cyber specialists demonstrate with on-line examples the value of joint penetration testing, assurance and training
  • A case study of protection of national transport systems
